Nexsan E-Series Storage Arrays Reaching EOSL Fall 2021: What’s Next?

A big heads up goes out to Nexsan consumers! According to Nexsan’s End-of-Support matrix, several of their E-Series storage arrays will be reaching the OEM chopping block this fall on September 30th. Affected products include:

Understand that Nexsan discontinuing support on your E-Series array does not mean it must be replaced! Post-warranty support is available today from Riverstone and promises to extend the useful life of your Nexsan infrastructure at an affordable low-cost. But how does this work? And what exactly does EOSL mean? This post will answer all that and more, as well as provide you with a potential contingency plan. To discover how to maintain your E-Series array long after it’s been abandoned by Nexsan, continue reading below!

What EOSL Means:

Standing for “End of Service Life”, EOSL marks the date on which a device is no longer viewed as serviceable by its original equipment manufacturer (OEM). After this date, all support services for the product become unavailable and the product is considered obsolete. Thus, September 30th signifies the last day of all active support, technical or otherwise, from Nexsan for these three E-Series models.

Before Refreshing Your E-Series Arrays…

Before taking the OEM’s advice and refreshing your E-Series array with Nexsan’s latest and greatest, it’s important to understand exactly why manufactures announce these end-of-support dates in the first place.

Large manufacturers like Nexsan earn the large majority of their profits by bringing new technology to market; not surprisingly, they aren’t improving bottom-line growth by continuing to maintain those assets after the sale. So they are 1) going to price extended warranties high enough that it “makes sense” to buy-new come End of Life, and if that doesn’t work then 2) announce a premature End of Service Life so you have no option but to refresh hardware that’s still in good working order.

But be aware, the data center industry uses EOL/EOSL terms to indicate lifecycle stages as they relate to technical support, marketing, development, etc. These terms do not accurately represent current or future equipment performance. In fact, most enterprise storage arrays can actually remain productive for 5 to 10 years after their prescribed EOSL. So if your current Nexsan E-Series array is operational and your business is dependent on it, why disrupt that with a costly and unnecessary transition? With the assistance of third party support, you won’t have to!

Now What? Nexsan E-Series Third Party Support

EOSL may mark the end when it comes to Nexsan, but it’s only the beginning of your third party support journey! Riverstone can seamlessly extend your Nexsan E-Series storage array’s warranty past the manufacturer’s troublesome EOSL, and for a fraction of the cost! The benefits of this kind of prolonged coverage are abundant:

  • Reduce TCO & Improve ROI

It doesn’t make fiscal sense to ditch a device that’s still successful. And considering that your E-Series array has the potential to function for 5 – 10 years after EOSL, you really shouldn’t! As long as equipment is covered, an extended support option to prolong an asset’s lifecycle could be instrumental in deferring a costly refresh until the necessary budget becomes available. By delaying the procurement of new capital assets, post-EOSL support works to reduce total cost of ownership and generate a greater return of investment.

  • Avoid Disruption

Storage equipment that’s critical to day-to-day operations can’t be replaced without causing major disruption; consider that installing new hardware almost always introduces some measure of uncertainty. And the truth is that no matter how much new infrastructure is researched, unexpected glitches and roadblocks that come up during migration are somewhat unpreventable. So being able to avoid such a disruptive transition is a huge benefit to Nexsan E-Series post-warranty support.

  • Exceptional Savings

Large manufacturers like Nexsan can get away with charging a premium for support without always providing premium service in return. It’s precisely the opposite with Riverstone Technology. We deliver savings of 40% to 80% off the Nexsan E-Series contract equivalent while incorporating better features and a superior support model.

By prioritizing SLA flexibility, we ensure clients get the services they need without having to spend on features they don’t.
